i can tell you this. if all of those drums ruptured in let's say a fire. then the words "disaster of epic proportions" would have a whole new meaning. in about a week lethal high doses of radiation would cover most of the united states. more than likely it would cover the world, and give most everyone radiation sickness. the rest would die from a shattered immune system to something as minor as a cold.
@ckilo11 Arizona fires FIFTY feet from Los Almos nuke waste 'stored “in a sort of fabric-type building that a fire could easily consume,” according to former top security official Glen Walp.' 55,000 drums...
Exactly how badly do you want to die a slow and painful death? The stuff that they would put in there has a half life of about 100,000 years. That is how long it takes for it to be half as deadly. Besides that it is still hot radioactively and physically. If there was an accident ( inevitable ), they would have to evacuate at least 1,000 miles around the site indefinitely.
There is nothing in this world that has no risk.
Are you willing to gamble with the lives of 1,000,000 people?
No mention of all the scientific studies showing this is safe, and economically beneficial to the state. Good job Harry. You managed to kill even more jobs in Nevada! Great timing!
That nuclear waste will still travel next to our schools, just that it will end up in some other state and create jobs there!
@ayebretwalda
Other than that Yucca Mt.. ,and similar facilities are just a short term solution to a long term problem.

Sorry to be so grim, but it is what it is.
