A Medley of three Oriental Novelty tunes:
"EGYPTIAN ELLA"
"QUEEN OF PALASTINA"
"REBECCA GOT BACK FROM MECCA"
Terry Waldo stitches these funny tunes together in a delightful medley, and works the ivories with some additional help from Craig Ventresco on guitar, and Bob Ault on banjo. These music makers really lit up the party with this performance. Did we have fun or what?
YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE!
Where, you ask? It all happened in Columbia, Missouri in early June, 2007 at the BLIND BOONE RAGTIME & EARLY JAZZ FESTIVAL. Check their website above for info. I can hardly wait till next year!
Here are some lyrics to "EGYPTIAN ELLA," written by Walter Doyle - - - - - - - -
Ella was a dancing girl who started getting fat
Every day saw three more pounds on Ella
Until one day she found she'd lost her job because of that
And to make it worse, she'd lost her fella
She took a trip to Egypt to forget
And she made such a hit that she's there yet ...
So if you hear of a gal who can quake and shake
'Till it makes you think of a nervous snake
They're speakin' ... of Egyptian Ella
She weighs two-twenty but that's O.K.
They like 'em plenty down there that way
She has the love ... of every fella
And when she shakes and when she starts
Down by the River Nile
The boys all take their old sweet-hearts
And throw them to the crocodiles
And every sheik in the audience
Jumps up and yells that "she's immense!"
They're cheering for Egyptian Ella.
All the other dancers from the desert to the Nile
One by one admit that they are jealous
For although they dance each night and wear the sweetest smile
Ella's is the tent that draws the fellas
For Ella has a dance that they can't steal
'Cause nothing else could do it but an eel
So if you hear of a gal who can quake and shake
'Till it makes you think of a nervous snake
They're speakin' ... of Egyptian Ella
She weighs two-twenty but that's O.K.
They like 'em plenty down there that way
She has the love ... of every fella
And when she shakes and when she starts
Down by the River Nile
The boys all take their old sweet-hearts
And throw them to the crocodiles
And every sheik in the audience
Jumps up and yells that "she's immense!"
They're cheering ... for Egyptian Ella.
They sound like old Yiddish musical tunes

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out that they actually are. The Composer was Walter Doyle. Maybe you could do a bit of research and find out.
Thanks for watching!

The beer-holding fellow standing behind Mr. Ventresco seems to have been vaporized by the greatness of the guitar virtuoso, because he is not seen later in the performance. Surely, he did not just walk away from a live rendition of "Egyptian Ella," unless the Waldo brand of stride piano had a unique effect on his innards. By the way, who DOESN'T have the Ted Lewis recording of that song?

There is a deaf guy that lives in Needles, California by the name of Fred Falderal that does not have a copy of the Ted Lewis recording.
