Great Truck. I have an 04 with over 260,000 on the clock and the 8.1l runs like a champ. I'm finally thinking about putting a tune on it. Got any ideals for the 8.1l, Allison 5 spd, 4x4, 4 door long bed? It's like driving a train but, I LOVE IT! Still gets 11 and 12 mpg bone stock.

im suprised more people dont use the 8.1 496 motor in more projects. its a power house and has sum aftermarket following.

as usual I am impresed with what you can acomplish with these 8.1's.What other mods do you have on the truck besides the turbo? I was thinking of putting a turbo setup with the raylar kit I already have. any advice?

@thundert56 I wouldn't recommend turbo for a stock short block and Raylar heads and cam. At that kinda power stock pistons won't last long

@TieRodKLL I have the mahle pistons and scat rods. the bottom end has been balanced and I got my bearings, timing chain, and oil pump from raylar.
I am waiting to get my tune done before I do anything else.

@thundert56 You could go 5-6psi with those pistons they are a little better then stock. I trashed a set of Mahle in my old truck. I'm not a fan of them.
