First "pre-release" review of Hoop Dreams, before being showed at Sundance, as well as nation-wide release. Also their top pick for 1994. Thirdly, their Memo to the Academy segment.

  • one of the worst snubs in oscar history

  • "Don't think that the documentary branch is going to take care of it with an award." Prescient. Hoop Dreams didn't even garner a nomination.

Lol, you're right. On its own merits, the film does seem overrated. Maybe "most influential movie ever" would be more appropriate? Either way, I just wanted to use it to say that even in 1941, the oscars were snubbing movies.

  • @Superfreaxx lawlz @ Citizen Kane being the Greatest movie ever.

You must be in film school or a pretentious hipster.

  • At first when I heard of Hoops Dreams I wasn't interested. Then I saw it on TV and wow I was totally into that film it wasn't even funny. Hoop Dreams is engaging, it's got poetry, it's got warmth, it's got every bit of excellence one can think of and it achieves on so many levels. Siskel and Ebert is so spot on. HECK! I even cared for William Gates and Arthur Agee's families! Hoop Dreams is clearly the best documentary film ever made PERIOD!

  • Boy - they - sure - have.

  • why was hoop reunion imdb mentions not on hoop dvd release. Has anyone seen it? Let me know about please.

  • @blaaket123

The Oscars also snubbed Citizen Kane, the greatest movie of all time.

  • @QuietGiantProduction Snubs in the past Malcom X, Do the Right thing, Pulp Fiction, Scarface, Roger & Me.... Can't stand the Oscars.

  • That's why I give no respect to the oscars or grammys. They are all just a bunch of bull. Who are these selected few to decide what the best movies and acters are. The movie is great and one of the best I have ever seen.

  • The oscars have been a joke for a while now-they don't like rewarding documentaries that expose the myths of the american dream like 'waiting for superman' & hoop dreams.

  • @BillyRVaughan It's a fucking joke that this film and Crumb weren't nominated as best documentaries that year...then again...it is the Oscar's so not that surprising...remind me again of what documentary won in 94? LOL Is anyone watching that still? Cos, I know people are still watching Hoop Dreams and Crumb...
