The serval (leptailurus serval) is one of nine species of cat that calls Africa its home. To see one of these small felines is a rare find on safari in Kenya, let alone at night.
Servals like many animals, simply need protected habitat to keep their populations up in the wild. I do not support owning the serval or any hybrid from it as a pet.

  • These are really neat cats! Are this cats trained to be house cats? Or were they made into a hybrid?

  • The cats shown here are 100% servals. One was a former pet and the other serval footage are wild servals living in Kenya. People will breed them with domestics to make hybrids. Search Wildcat Sanctuary and they have a lot of ifo on the hybrid cats and why we should protect the wild cats and not make more hybrids.

  • There are legitimate breeders of these animals which have been breeders for years, with only 1-3 females.

All animals are wild, and humans domesticate them. As long as boat loads of wild animals aren't coming over the seas, then work on not killing animals excessively for food and clothing, watching them at the circus (most are abused), and try shutting down a puppy mill or a kitty mill where those animals are treated like crap.

  • Everyone can have their point of view. But what I think is along with the things you mentioned for us to worry about, is also the overall idea that nature is out there for us to domesticate and then breed to sell. We have to first worry about true conservation/protection of all cats. For me the bad from the exotic pet trade out does the good. Even though only a few servals recently have been found roaming in neighborhoods, and some turned in to sanctuaries, it is a few too many for me.

  • are they as fast as cheetahs? what is this snimals top speed?

  • Cheetahs are the fastest cats. Servals though, can jump very high to catch birds out of flight. As for running speed..for short distances maybe 30mph?

  • I love this video, what a beautiful animal the Serval is.

  • Tropical Paradise by CKJPol

  • not all hybrids r bad the savannah its the nicist cat to own servals in some ways r different they r possessive loyal as long as dont leave it by itself and is very defensive to the owner so other people cant go near it but there r rare servals u can but a wild serval should stay in the wild

  • iv never seen one of those before. every one gives so much attention to the leapords and tigers and lions... but the beautifull serval goes unoticed.

  • Servals do have a kind of odd look, when you think of it -- small head on a big body.

I have also heard that when a serval hisses, it's not necessarily a threat unless its ears are folded when it hisses. Is that true?

  • Lol, 1:06 he's looking back like " dude, you are messing up my camo!"

  • @dgreener1 u b a dum azz

  • they look rather cute but they are like any wild animal dangerous

  • ive seen two wild cats in my life in norcal. id rather run into a domesticated cat in my yard then a wild one. one of the wild cats stole 2 sheep the first two days we had them. after this was reported to the animal controll they called trappers which in turn if they winde up catching the cat would put it down or give it to a zoo or a "rescue center" whats the difference.

  • Shining the light on it while it's trying to hunt, nice.
