Regular Flowers

Lesson Type: Intermediate

Alternative Naming: Compound Circles

Prerequisites: A good control of split-time and planes works well.

In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to do the 4 petal same-direction, split-time flower in both directions.

Sorry for the poorer than usual quality video, I was performing the flowers square to the windowsill, not realising that the camera was on an angle, so you're not seeing the full effect of the flowers as my planes are on an angle to the camera. And that coat isn't the best to twirl in, and it was cold, and I had a cold, so all these things combined made it a little worse than usual. Still, I hope it helps you learn.

Best of luck,

Nathaniel Everist

Just try to keep rotating your wrists in the necessary circles, too many people keep their hands rigid, you need to keep circling them. If you're having trouble still, stand next to a wall that is parallel to the plane you want to keep and that should help guide your planes correctly.

  • I have the biggest crush on you. I'm just starting out with poi, but I've watched many of your videos this far because I just love listening to you talk. :)

  • Wow, thanks! I appreciate the compliment.

You can try spinning your poi in front of a wall. Grab your poi and spin in either direction facing the wall and poi in between you and the wall, sideways and if you want backwards. This forces you to learn the muscle memory to keep objects in the same plane.

Know this may sound weird but it really helps.. Let me try to put it in a different way so that you may understand (if you already haven't.)

    1. Face Wall

    2. Spin in your front plane

    3. Close gap between you and wall

    4.Repeat

  • I absolutly love your video's, there very easy to understand and your very talented yourself :] keep it up :] you have talent.
