In this video, John Denver was singing "Boy From The Country" in 1980 with the Aspen Festival Orchestra conducted by Lee Holdridge for the Aspen Music Festival. I think this is the best video I've ever made.

The scenes are taken from the TV Special "Music And The Mountains" and the audio is taken from an old radio broadcast, but they are actually from the same concert: Aspen, Colorado, 19th August 1980.

Enjoy the beautiful scenes of wild creatures and feel John's love for nature...
John Denver is mother nature's son.
He is not only a singer-songwriter, but also a great environmentalist.
If you are fond of his music, please support his work.
Please do all what you can do to help saving the environment.
We must make this world a better place for our children to live in.
Thanks for watching.
R.I.P. JOHN DENVER

Because he called the forest brother
Because he called the earth his mother
They drove him out into the rain
Some people even said the boy from the country was insane

Because he spoke with fish in the creek
He tried to tell us that the animals could speak
Who knows, perhaps they do, I know they do
How do you know they don't
Just because they've never spoken to you

Boy from the country, he left his home when he was young
Boy from the country, he loves the sun

He tried to tell us that we should love the land
We turned our heads and laughed
And we did not understand
Sometimes i think that the boy from the country
Is the only one who sees
Because the boy from the country
Doesn't wanna see the forest for the trees

Boy from the country, he left his home when he was young
Boy from the country, he loves the sun

  • Sing, Henry;

    the flight of a thousand ethereal beings,

    their wings a distant thunderstorm;

    a highway strings along the foot of a great mountain range,

    cold and a low mist makes it colder;

    his guitar echoes still, his tenor

    still wakes me from dreams of loss;

    his resonant vocals speak to me still:

    "There is no loss...my friend..."

    Sing, Henry.

  • @nixthetiger: Thanks for the beautiful poem... Moves me to tears...

  • a great song written by another Colorado contemporary Michael Martin Murphy.

    Does anyone have the duo that Murphy and Denver recorded together on Johnny Carson, Carolina In the Pines, where the strings break on John's guitar?? Nothing like live music, for sure. Thanks so much for this most unique video

  • @flyingcory: Thanks for your kind comment!

  • The first time i heard John sing this song, I was moved to tears by not only the words, but by the genuine sincerity in his amazing voice. My favorite version of this song by far, is the live version from the album, An Evening With John Denver. When he does the falsetto at the end of the song, there's no wonder that the chills come and so do the tears. Forever in our hearts, John. <3

  • Everytime I think I have heard all JD songs I find another one to fall in love with..I miss him and will always be His number one fan

  • For the longest time, I was not a John Denver fan. Then I got free tickets to a concert of his at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. I was awestruck. His voice soared above us, giving new meaning to the phrase, "sang like a bird." After that, I loved him. What a loss for us all. Watching this video makes me miss him acutely.

  • I sure do miss him.

  • @sweetlowrayne .. .Me too !! It was the first album of John's I bought. . .I will be 50 in December, and I was 12 or 13 when bought that LP. It cost me £3-99, which was a fortune to me then, I still have it to this day . I still play it, and still mourn the passing of the greatest singer/songwriter of my generation. I've shed more than a few tears today, and posted a shed load of John's songs,over my FB page, you never know?? Some of my friends might just hear what I heard, all those years ago.

  • John Denver and Steve Irwin. How I wish we could still have both of them with us and both still doing their work.

  • Beautiful song, incredible man. I miss him still, and Nature needs his voice more than ever. That poem by nixthetiger was inspiring and brought tears to my eyes.

    Thank you all for your caring for our Mother the Earth....she needs all the help she can get.

  • @anythinglovecanbuy: Great great video. Nicely done. Thank-you!!!
