Let me add that precisely because she was an American, had not studied abroad, her acceptance was actually made more difficult. Havin Caruso onher side certainly helped, but SHE had to prove herself; he couldn't sing for her after all.

Good Lord! That's just plain nutty!

  • @JackRance1910 Thanks :)

  • @unpodimusica1 excellent comment, understanding etc.

  • @AnnieLaurieScottie Well her nationality HAS got something to do with it. If a singer is "adopted" or IS American, then all critical standards can be "suspended." Every comment which follows sympathetic or not is seen as an insult to the American people.

  • @AnnieLaurieScottie I said it started in me an understanding. I was on the artist's side. I was sympathetic.

  • Unbelievable!!!!!! Her nationality has NOTHING to do with it -- her singing does. I can't understand a position such as yours. Am I to assume that her rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" would find you still in your seat chomping popcorn? "No beauty?" Oh my!

  • @AnnieLaurieScottie A considered reposte from you. But her singing to me lack humanity and human frailty. Her singing is as if extruded through a tube; no beauty, no humanity. Perhaps it's because she was an "adopted" American that means that criticism is banned. I won't go into that. All I shall say is that her singing lacks human qualities - always so. She is a machine, a fine one, but to me it lacks any excitement.

What's NOT to like? Attractive? Attractive? Her singing was the very definition of sublime.
