@GhostInTheShell29 Well, no offence, but that's really obvious.
Well, unless.. Aliens could have built spaceships like our early ones and sent them out as generational ships. Then they'd be less advanced :)
-
@GortonMichael If they are less advanced then us, we will only meet them once we take to the stars. At least hundreds if not thousands of years from now.
If we meet anyone before that its because they came to earth. So they'd be more advanced.
-
@GhostInTheShell29 I think it's amusing how everyone thinks aliens will be more advanced than us if they exist. Why not us? We went from first flight to spaceflight within 60 years. That's fast. A huge change in tech.

@TheDirtysouthfan Speaking the truth here. Romans had superior logistics, men were trained better, better equipment, etc. They'd destroy any army until much more modern eras.

@Magni56 I don't see why you feel the need to constantly try and fail at nitpicking what i'm saying... War did consist of lining up and attacking eachother, was that way when it was melee weapons and bows, as well as gunpowder weapons as well. It wasn't till WWII that large wars were no longer fought in neat lines.
break down long before once? firing even a single time? 100 rounds could easily take out over 1000 people.
Not to mention completely route the enemy.
Now stop being an ass.
-
Nope. That Mark19 would run out of ammo or break down long before. Also, that's not how numbers and attrittion work on the strategic scale. War doesn't just consist of the opposing forces lining up and having a go at each other.
-
@GhostInTheShell29 .......What? That's not what I'm saying, I'm saying it only matters how many advancements took place in the time in between. My point being though was that warfare hadn't advanced much since the Ancient Romans by 800 and that a Roman legion could probably take on a English or French army of equal size. Of course with Spaniards vs. Aztecs yes warfare had advanced too much for them and they were easily defeated because in the time Spaniards advanced more.

@Magni56 One Mark 19 repeating grenade launcher. VS an army of 10k people in the open... The mark 19 would win. Ok fine final example. World War II the polish lancers vs the german tanks. Though lancers were once a powerful military force, it wouldn't have mattered if poland had a million lancers or only a handful, as the german tanks came equipped with machine guns. Remember seeing old footage of it.. always felt bad for the horses. Everything was just mowed down.

Except not, given that said modern unit would still be far too small to get anything done and would be murdered by attrittion and guerilla resistance.
-
@Magni56 Ok ok, yes you do have valid points. Not the best thought out example as their were many other contributing factors besides just technology. So i'll go with a hypothetical example. Send a modern day military unit back in time to before rifling was invented... Literally the only thing that would stop them would be the limitted amount of ammo they took back with them.
God, how I miss these fantastic games. UFO Defense, Terror from the Deep, Master of Orion, Alpha Centauri...
