This video is a visualization of the behavior of soil and the soil-structure interaction when liquefaction occurs. It shows the cyclic shear (lateral) strain and displacement fields. Liquefaction occurs when the ground shakes and soil particles float in water and are not in direct contact with one another, making the ground behave like a liquid.
