Shooting down a doodlebug cost many pilots their lives... The safest way to deal with the flying bombs was to get close and flip them.

  • They didn`t actually touch, just flew with the wing close enough to spoil the airflow over the V1`s wing witch would lose lift and flip over by itself The Tempest Mk V was the best at destroying V1`s followed by the Mosquito then Spitfire Mk XIV, many were shot down using Canon at long range

  • he tiped the rocket to much just be lucky it didnt explode and they dont down like that they start to flip littleby little and start falling

  • @jethou1 My understanding is that flipping a V1 was preferred to shooting at it unless you could maintain a relatively "safe" distance for either .50 cal MG or 20/40mm cannon. The V1 carried a 1-ton warhead like the V2, but what the blast radius would be I don't know for sure. Most pilots- from accounts I've read- said most often they would put a wingtip under the V1's wingtip then execute a slow or snap roll to spill it. Shooting at it you couldn't be sure when you'd detonate it either. Thanx.

  • dam, thats bloody good flying there, you got hyperlobby, me and my mate have been trying to bind the TB3 spd with a I16 spd in mid air but tbh i lack the skill, if you have hyperloby want to try with us?

  • @coombs002 not just meteors, they would just dive to got uop to speen they only went at about 40mph, most fighters could reach that

  • @SuperDrKas actully pilots would do that to prevent themselves going in to a death spin after flying through the derby of an exploding v1

  • @Malibucompany Non-lethal my ass.....Look at the death toll caused by them.Pilots got blownup in midair by those things plenty of times.

  • @RyogaXvX I agree, considering that the V-1 carried the same warhead (1 ton) as a V-2 did. What the blast radius would be, I don't know.

  • @BertusopdeNorton

According to About com's Military History, the V-1's max speed was 393 mph.

  • The upload is considerate of the soundtrack- completely questionable.

A Mustang was propeller driven. The (un-manned) V1 was a rocket with wings. You're SO American in your thinking... Get a Budweiser, turn on Hogans Heroes re-runs and go back to fantasyland.
