Traditional Faroese ring dance. Performed by the school children in the little Faroese village of Funningur at the Island of Eysturoy, Faroe Islands.

The local school teacher in Funningur between 1924-59, Maria Ejde Petersen (1894-1994), was a Faroese folklorist who recorded and collected several old traditional Faroese ring dances, folk songs and old hymns in the gregorian style.

In mid 1950'ies the Faroese grammophone recordings began to be organized and published with great succes. Some attemps had been done in 1928, 1937 and 1946. One of the pionéers of recording Faroese grammophone records in 1950's was Hanseman Tórgarð from Tórshavn. Hansemann Tórgarð also was a nephew of Maria Ejde Petersen. The introduction of the modern steel wire recorder, made recordings much easier, compared to the old style recording maschines of 78rpm's. In late 1956 Hansemann Tórgarð went to the village of Funningur to record the local school children dancing and singing some old traditional Faroese ring dances. The old ring dances are performed in Faroese and also some in Danish. The recordings took place in the little kitchen of Maria Ejde Petersen, this little kitchen had the best acoustics for a recording. Not to make it too noisy, the children were dancing in whoolen socks on the wooden floor. The steel wire tapes were transferred to a 78 rpm record in Norway on the Norwegian record compagny "Harmoni".

Spanialand means Spain, and Miklagaard is the old Wiking name of Konstantinopel.
