Sixteen children and two adults from the Democratic Republic of Congo were rescued from alleged traffickers after they were found stranded at the Railways Station bus terminus. The sixteen say they are refugees who had taken a four day trip to seek asylum in Kenya but children's rights NGO The Cradle believe they were about to be trafficked . Police are investigating the matter.

  • @72okoths Its the same way most of us desperately cling to stay even illegally in the USA and hope to get 'papers'.

  • @Niseingwe The children was found with guardians and they admit to have brought the children from Congo in such a case the country of citizenship is known, the constitution don't protect such incidents. The children are going back to Congo. The clause applies only when the child is found without no guardians.

  • @omera26 That much I understand & I guess that's why I disagree with it. Rules are made for the norm, not the exception. An 8 year old walking around with no parents/guardians IS an exception. The norm is, most 8 year olds would be with their parents or guardians. So that mutes your point (although I do get the humanitarian angle that should be on case by case basis).Besides not being able to take care our own street children, the system can be extensively abused by shady & dangerous characters.

  • @Niseingwe how does it not make sense...it just says that a child found within the borders of Kenya who is under the age of 8 shall be assumed to be a citizen of the country...that sounds eminently reasonable to me. What would you have instead, unaccompanied children found in Kenya should be thrown in jail? deported? where?

  • so who is going to be charged here

    nobody!!

    and they r from tz?

    woiyiee so sad

  • This is sad and bad for our country. Whoever came up with the clause was not thinking straight. We need 10000000 signatures to amend this clause asap or else people will be bringing their kids to kenya in thousands.

  • wacheni madharau kenya is a beautiful country with great people. I can't wait to finish my studies n go back 2 my mamaland...am not cut out 4 this place (stato)

  • @72okoths you will be surprised. I have met Tanzanians, Ugandans, and Rwandese who would do anything to become

kenyan citizens. It is baffling but true.

  • @kamzzee The first time I heard that clause I hoped that I was mistaken. I have scratched my head for the rationale, and I am almost bald and still doesn't make sense to me.

  • why on earth would anybody want to be a Kenyan citizen if he/she is not born in Kenya ? why?
