Cute little ad for the Natural Gas Company (a division of AGL Energy, formerly the Australian Gas Light company, which primarily served the Sydney area but now has a national outlook). At the time, natural gas as an energy source was still a novel concept to Australians, having only being introduced to the Sydney area in 1976 (and, to some extent, it still is today, with the bulk of our energy needs still being met with coal-fired stations and petroleum-fuelled vehicles) so the 'good folks' at AGL had to come up with a novel way of selling their product. They chose polar bears. Interesting, to say the least.
If I'm not mistaken, there was another ad in this series set in Roman times, where a gladiator is meant to be defending himself from the lions in an amphitheatre...only to find the lions enjoying the many benefits of natural gas, much like the polar bears here. Or maybe it's just my vivid imagination...
OMG!!! This is one of the ads that I have been searching for, for YEARS! What an absolute legend you are for uploading it.
If you can find the other Natural Gas ad [where a cat jumps out the window, someone comes along and shuts the window and then the doorbell rings with the cat sitting there asking "who closed the window hmmm?"] - then you have got a best friend for life.
