Chris Mallett, who was Divisional Music Director in California, wrote TRAVELLING ALONG for himself to play during a visit to the UK in 2000. It is based on two well-known tunes, Travel Along in the Sunshine, and Sunshine, Sunshine. Listeners may also pick up humerous references to the tunes California, Here I Come and Raindrops keep Falling On my Head!.

  • I just want to make the point that everyone on here arguing who is the best euphonium player in the world, please understand that you are arguing something that is SUBJECTIVE!!!!

Why can't we accept that when you get to the level of Mr. Kane, there isn't better, there is only different.

All the leading euphonium players are really equals - derek kane included.

At their level, it's like arguing which colo(u)r is the best!

  • Youre forgetting robert childs, would whoop dave childs and steven meads ass in his day.

  • have you heard the young very talented player domnic herbert? he is a VERY high standard player but at the age of twelve not at the level of derek or david yet but exspect big things in the future, if you are in the salvaton army you might no his dad major mark herbert

  • Awesome euph playing from a true virtuoso.

It must be a little frustrating for someone to get so good on an instrument which has a relatively narrow scope i.e. mainly Brass band and Wind band.

I guess that's why many also major on Trombone to enable playing in Orchestras, jazz ensembles etc. etc.

  • @Joey10Thompson10 well opinion is subjective, so obviously people's views will be different.

  • @euphoniumtillidie David Childs, Adam Frey, Brian Bowman, and Steven Mead (my opinion) if you have a different opinion than me please comment, if you agree with me, like this

  • @Gregums50 Hasn't Aaron left that? TBF, you speak the truth! They are all very equal quality, and Derick is not "average at best"

    My top 5 euphonium players are;

    David Childs,

    David Thornton,

    Steven Mead,

    Dercik Kane,

    Glyn Williams.

However, they are all similar, and it's only an opinion. FTR, watch for the name Matt Ingram. Top quality lad, player and composer! Is 20 or 21 and plays in Carlton Maine. Sits second man down on euphonium iirc

  • @nkosentsha It is in "The Derick Kane Euphonium Album" published by SP&S (Salvationist Publishing and Supplies)

It will probably be on the internet on sites like music room.com or something :)

  • But I'm a cornet player so I more care aboot David Daws, Roger Webster, Richard Marshall, Phill Cobb and many other musicians. BUT I have a friend who is now in The New York Staff Band and he is a really good euphonium player! I think one day he'll be at that level soon! But young musicians in England almost always become world class musicians if they work at it!

    Long live Cornet Players!!!

  • this is pointless! they are all amazing Euphonium players and are prob better then ALL OF YOU! and we are all forgetting Aaron VanderWeele! Who was the best euphonium player in 2007! Derick Kane plays in the International Staff Band(Best Salvation Army brass band) Aaron plays in The New York Staff Band but we are forgetting David Thornton from Black Dyke.and Waltts is right! once you're in that level of playing, you can pretty much play anything the next euph. player can play.

  • It's his signature Micah ;)

  • rhymneyboy091 I easily rate Derick in my top 5 euphonium players!! I sat next to him at TYB 2010, and he is aboslute quality! Not average at best!!!
