Title: Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strike.
Developer: Red Storm Entertainment.
Publisher: Ubisoft.
Platforms: Xbox - Backwards Compatible with Xbox 360.

This is the sequel (Or expansion, if you prefer that) to Ghost Recon 2, which once again puts you in the role as Captain Scott Mitchell, leading the Ghost team, this time in a campaign to stop a Kazakhstani warlord.

For a more elegant plot synopsis, see the intro here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TD-Z-o09r6s

The game itself, much like Ghost Recon 2, is excellent. Gameplay is solid and everything feels, if not realistic, then at least authentic.

A lot of improvements has been made on Ghost Recon 2, especially in regards of providing a greater mission variety, especially settings wise.

Summit Strike gives you a full cityscape, two snowy mountain locales (Played this specific mission to show of the gorgeous snow effect), a pitch black forest littered with bunkers and several desert locales as well.

And while many maps in Ghost Recon 2 appeared massive and open, they were somewhat linear in how the mission played out. This is usually not the case with Summit Strike, leaving you free to complete the objectives in any order you prefer (And I actually messed up while recording, failing to take out the nearest objective first. But it doesn't matter anyway, since the run all the way back there couldn't fit into the 10 minute limit).

Summit Strike also introduces a lot of new weapons, giving you a lot of choice which firearms to carry in battle, even in the singleplayer campaign (Unlike Ghost Recon 2, which limited you to American standard issue equipment).

You're still limited to Allied weaponry (Those shown) during missions though (Of course, you can during the mission pick up and use an enemies equipment if you want). In addition to those, there are high-tech Lone Wolf equipment (Available in specific missions) and of course the enemies firearms (Available in multiplayer).

And just as Ghost Recon 2, Summit Strike allows 4 player splitscreen (Though restricted to first person view only, with no rendered weapon models) for co-op and competitive play. And there is a huge variety of modes to choose from. And of course there's also System Link and Xbox Live.

Multiplayer Modes:

Co-op Firefight - Eliminate AI enemies. No respawns.
Co-op Defend - Defend area against spawning AI enemies. No respawns.
Co-op Recon - Scout locations on the map while avoiding enemy contact.
Co-op Battle - Firefight with respawns enabled.
Co-op Garrision - Defend with respawns enabled.
Co-op Scout - Recon with respawns enabled.
Co-op Mission - Self explanatory.
Co-op Heli Hunt - Destroy spawning AI helicopters.
Co-op Hamburger Hill - Capture and hold the central area, while preventing the AI on the other team from doing the same.

Solo Sharpshooter - Deathmatch.
Solo Last Man Standing - Deathmatch with one life.
Solo Seek and Destroy - Whoever kills first becomes a high priority target worth more points. Kill the target and you become it. Whoever gets the most points, win.
Solo Thief - Deathmatch, except you get half the points of the player you kill.

Squad Sharpshooter - Team Deathmatch.
Squad Last Man Standing - Team Deathmatch with one life.
Squad Domination - Self explanatory.
Squad Hamburger Hill - Capture and hold the central area, while preventing the opposing team from doing the same.
Squad Search and Rescure - Bring back Medics to your base to earn points, while preventing the other team from doing the same.
Squad Siege - One team defends a base, the other attacks it.
Squad Double Siege - Siege, except both teams must defend their own base while attacking the opposing teams base.
Squad Armor Strike - Each team has 3 tanks. Defend your own and laser designated and destroy those of the opposing team.
Squad Assassination - One squad must defend a VIP for as long as possible, while the other tries to kill it.
Squad Recovery - Capture the Flag.

I very much recommend this game.

  • Shit, watching this just reminds me how much stuff they took out of later games.

    - Suppressing fire

    - Right/left flanking

    - Teammates throw grenades

    - Ordering teammates to plant charges

    - Large weapon selection (Includes the M16/M4; correct mag capacity on the SCAR-H)

    - Open level design that requires actual strategy

Fucking goddamn frogs from Ubi corporate TOOK this game from Red Storm, and have been butchering it at their Paris studio for the last six years!

    I blame France.

  • The music in this game was awesome. The ingame music that is, it's like a subharmonic hum through out the level.

  • Was Summit strike good. I had Ghost recon 2 and it was godly/

  • @vioniribu yes it is

  • This was the best tactical shooter on the Xbox. PS2 and GameCube had a version Ghost Recon2 but they were such different game (i e crappy) that you can't compare them. These were so much fun on Xbox Live.
