The IOU Project produces unique, handmade apparel based on fabrics handwoven in India. Because each textile is unique, we provide end buyers with the ability to trace the production process from finished goods right back to the weaver that hand-wove the fabric. The stories of how that item was created, of the people involved, of the customers who purchased them, are the essence of the the e-commerce social network which The IOU Project has built as a meeting place for a community that shares our brand values of authenticity, transparency, uniqueness and both social and environmental responsibility. @Recordscience because that is the way we are, as humans. You can't expect everyone to suddenly stop caring about how we look and start dressing in potato sacks, but you CAN ask us to be fashionable on a more socially conscious level. Every step towards social change, however huge and impossible that idea may seem, is a step in the right direction. Better than the general apathy and feeling of helplessness expressed by most people when approached with the issue of poverty. This company rocks!!

@Recordscience that's what this project is for, the people who can't afford clothing make the clothes for people who are able to afford it. By doing this the poor people earn money and become able to afford clothes for themselves. I think it's a great project, it helps poor people make a living and makes richer people pay for it :) I don't think the clothes should be sold for a very cheap price by the way, that would be disadvantageous for the people who work so hard to make the clothes.

What a lovely idea! Can't wait to see the clothes! Artisans have art in their hands machines don't have hands nether art

Well, I'd really like to see how much these unique clothes will cost. If we're talking about normal prices, then this is indeed a good idea.

I have some major problems with this. How can people be so overly concerned with their individualities when there are others in the world who can't even afford clothing? Let alone *unique personalized* clothing

This is great idea, both for clothing and saving jobs. Very creative indeed! I certainly cannot wait till it launches and have a look at the designs. Good luck!
