This video shows a Lego Mindstorms NXT robot "stealing" a green ball from a WowWee Rovio. The NXT robot is being driven by a student interacting with an XBox Kinect (visible from 0:48 to 0:53), and the Rovio is following the ball automatically using color recognition. Both projects were done in Python (libfreenect for the NXT, OpenCV for the Rovio) by students Washington & Lee's CSCI 250 Intro. to Robotics spring-term course.

  • Thanks! We used libfreenect and numpy to get the X,Y coordinates of the drivers' hands. We translated these coordinates into commands to the NXT, which we sent via Bluetooth.

  • Well done.; What did you use to transfer the kinect data to the NXT controls?
