Matt Simmons gained broad mainstream media exposure recently as staunch critic of BP Oil Spill Disaster Response by BP and others (such as GOV agencies). However, he was well known among Energy Analysts, Market Watchers and Developers, and others for being the big "PEAK OIL CRISIS" voice. He is the author of "Twilight in the Desert", arguably the most widely circulating book on the subject of GLOBAL PEAK OIL
In recent years, he became a proponent of OCEAN ENERGY as long term to solution to the eventually sharp decline in Global Oil Supply. He had been working hard in Maine to set up large maritime windfarms off the Maine Coast.
Addtionally, he supported Ocean Thermal Energy and other Ocean Energy Projects.
He will be sorely missed, RIP!

  • oh come on. The guy had extremely high blood pressure. HE was diabetic. He was sixty seven years old for Christ sake. And for all you matt simmons acolytes, remember he is dead wrong about bp going bankrupt, "within a month". He made that statement in June. Also among his crazy talk was using a nuke on the bp spill. He also stated that the oil field was as big as the state of washington, and three hundred feet thick. The man just plain lost reality in his old age.

  • Good one. I thought about doing the same thing.

World lost an important whistle blower.

  • thank you U.C. for this deeply fitting tribute to a great and wise gentleman, who will truly be sorely missed, but sweety, having said that....i just cant buy the natural causes party line in this case, he was too healthy, he was not a spring chicken, but there are alot of healthy 67 y.old men in this world, the timing is too creepy, the cause of death is to creepy, the situational reality is to creepy, and the people who could have done this are openly brazen and predictably likely for murder <3U

  • He founded the O.E.I. did not know that.
