i went on a tour and the tour guide said it weighed 2 tons. But now that you say it, i does sound bit odd. where did you get the information about a 58cwt ring of 8 from?

@bellminsterboy, where did you get that duff information? The hour bell weighs approx 25cwt. It was the former 6th bell of 8 that used to be hung for ringing in the long demolished detached Cathedral campanile. Had they and the tower survived, this 58cwt 8 would have been the worlds heaviest 8 by quite a margin over Sherborne Abbey.
