This video contains several films. The first film, produced in the 1970s, provides an overview of the early days of the Navy's Top Gun school at Miramar, California. It documents the five weeks of training F-14 pilots received. Includes classroom scenes and excellent scenes of F-14s in training combat missions against T-38 Talons and F-5E Tigers.
The second film, No Points For Second Place, documents the role of the Grumman F-14 Tomcat as the Navy's premiere fighter plane, which - at that time - was being promoted as a countermeasure to the Soviet Union's advances in fighter technology. Includes excellent footage of the F-14 in action, as well as interviews with Tomcat pilots. Most of the ground scenes were filmed at NAS Miramar and the air sequences were shot over the California desert.

The third film, F-14 Air Combat Maneuvering was filmed at Miramar and looks at the F-14s overall capabilities in combat.

The fourth film, F-14: One of a Kind, focuses on Tomcat's weapons systems including the Phoenix, Sparrow and Sidewinder missiles and its gatling guns.

The fifth film, Day in a Squadron, documents the routine activities of Tomcat squadron VF-124, based at Miramar in the 1970s.

The last part of this video documents the last day of the Top Gun school at Miramar. Includes F-14s taking off from Miramar on their way to their new home in Fallon, Nevada.

  • a little old, topgun has been in lovely Fallon Nv. the planes look new in this vid and sailors are wearing real dungarees. the f14 would eat a swarm of super hornets for breakfast. it was designed to combat a badass mig, that would also eat hornets. the reason we dont need the f14 is because there isnt as much competition as there used to be in air superiority. they are also falling apart... and ya know the f22-23 was designed in the 90's so we have still yet to see a 21st century aircraft.

  • the tomcat was the most sexy bad ass aircraft when it came to the cat's to be shot out the way the nose came down to me was " im on my way to kick some ass "
