The Detroit-Windsor tunnel carries about 10,000 vehicles per day - both directions combined. That's adequate for just a two lane tunnel. The problem is that there are only six lanes at the US Customs checkpoint in Detroit and not all of those will be open. A larger inspection facility would be nice, but they are hemmed in downtown,

I crossed over the bridge both ways on Wed Night (Mar 31) and was appalled by the way my 11-year-old son and I were treated upon re-entry. I'd lodge a formal complaint if I didn't fear it might land me on a "no fly" list or something. If there are any Michiganders on the fence about joining some anti-federal "club", this experience would seal the deal! Nice work Customs, and Border Patrol personnel, NOT!

@PATRICK10868 Must of been some issue up at the front, from right at the tolls of Windsor to the U.S side I never sit more then 1 hour. Trunk searches usually cause this crap.

@danielgirotto This tunnel was built in like the 20's .. On the U.S side they need to come up with better solutions for people who go regularly . Even if you have a nexus card you still have to wait in that stupid line! Bridge is two lanes and most of the time they will open up one of the other lanes at the end to make it three lanes, and it is redone with more Booths!
