Authorities say the death toll will likely rise following a tsunami that hit South Pacific islands after a powerful undersea earthquake. On Samoa and American Samoa, more than 100 people are confirmed dead and fatalities have been reported in nearby Tonga. The U.S. Geological Survey says the powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0 struck the islands, setting off tsunami waves. The White House has declared a major disaster in American Samoa, adding that federal funds would be provided to support local recovery efforts. VOA's Chris Simkins has more on the story.
