According to the famed Karate Grandmaster Masutatsu Oyama in his book "Advanced Karate" on pg.13 "The oldest known record concerning combat techniques, hieroglyphic scrolls from Egyptian tombs, dating as far back as 4000 B.C." He also states that Bhodhidharma traveled to China and combined his combat and yogic breathing exercises with indigenous Chinese martial arts at a temple called Shaolin.
