For those who think that low energy bulbs aren't bright, here's a video that shows what they actually look like in my home next to an ordinary bulb.

  • CFL's put out a differnt spectrum of light. They also do not work well at temp's under 40 degrees farinheiht

  • @compukenny I agree, but for normal domestic and commercial use they are perfectly OK. The point is that they are not all dim, which the commonly quoted reason for not using them and the video hopefully shows that.

  • Good comparison. Thanks for posting.

  • I preffer LEDs myself... last longer and don't burn my face! people with lupus can't use CFLs. but we CAN use LEDs :)

  • @mcapps1 That's just the coldness of the led's, I just got two sets of ceiling bulbs, one a harch, cold white, another a warmer yellow-ish led. And the led outshines my old cfl that cost me more to buy and run.

  • It's not that the CFL is 'brighter', it just has a higher color temperature, which makes it appear brighter. You'd need a light meter to measure the luminosity of each light (not a camera) for hard results. I'd bet that the CFL and incandescent are closer than you would think, without the CFL being that much brighter in reality.

  • very harsh light that is.
