The shuttle Endeavour delivers "windows on the world" to the International Space Station, aftershocks from the Obama Administration's budget bombshell rattle NASA, prospects for a shuttle program extension - while remote - live on, the Solar Dynamics Observatory soaks up the sun, SpaceX gets ready to light the candle on Falcon 9, and Hubble/ESA/the European Southern Observatory wow us with some new out-of-this-world pictures.

  • Think of the space programme as a life raft being lowered into the ocean from a sinking ship.

That raft has now slowed almost to a stop.

One day, maybe tomorrow ,maybe next year,2012,2029,2036 or maybe a billion years from now if wer'e lucky, everything alive on Earth today will be extinct.

So,to avoid extinction we must put all available recources into getting that life raft into the water as quickly as possible.

Short sighted politicians will be our doom.

  • After the emotions calm down, maybe the discussion of what NASA will do will start. Continue Shuttle? Make a Jupiter HLV? Keep Orion? Or something totally new?

Something tells me there is more that the Administration is not telling us.

  • hey, how come they don't build on the moon? Aliens have a base there, well I hope they can share the space.

  • @dks13827 : And we should trust dks13827, anonymous poster on Youtube... exactly why? For reference, here are the first two sentences of the Augustine Report summary:

"The U.S. human spaceflight program appears to be on an unsustainable trajectory. It is perpetuating the perilous practice of pursuing goals that do not match allocated resources."

Says it all, really. The new budget provides a realistic start for having a productive human spaceflight program. What we had was a doomed pipe dream.

  • up their sleeve ?? the admin's goal is to kill manned space flight, trust me.

  • great video exactly what we need to get the word out to the general public.
