Shot during the winter and spring of 2004 in master crop artist Lillian Colton's kitchen, in between games of Scrabble and over coffee and great conversation, these four short video segments were included as part of the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program exhibition, Lillian's Vision which ran in the Minnesota Artists Gallery at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, July 30 through September 19, 2004.
The exhibition "Lillian's Vision" featured crop art portraits by the legendary Lillian Colton, a self-taught, 92-year-old artist who used seeds as her primary medium for more than 40 years. Collectively, Colton's icons of historical or entertainment celebrity spanned many decades of pop culture, from American presidents, to the stars of movies, art, and music, to great leaders in religion and science. The exhibition was organized by guest curator and artist, Jan D. Elftmann.
The four video segments focus on Colton's early life growing up in rural Minnesota, her creative influences, her work as a beautician and her long-term relationship with the Minnesota State Fair. They are entitled Farm Club, Art & Life, Beauty Work, and State Fair.
