This is a short video of the opening moments of the Bruch Violin Concerto - on electric guitar! I recorded the full piece in 2001 and this short video in 2006.

  • Too much compression, and generally a horrible tone. Mr. Welch, you're playing with an orchestra, I recommend you get a more natural overdrive sound, something suitable to playing with an orchestra, and something that lets the natural dynamics of the instrument come through better. Frankly, your sound is dated ('80s hard rock tone), unnatural, and overprocessed...nice playing though.

  • I agree...still looking for that elusive great tone. Any recommendations on electronics?

  • useless, the only good guitar is classical guitar. this was paththetic and took such a high class song and degraded it to such a low level.

  • Haha...I love how you called this piece a "song". :-p

  • Very good performance! Amazing!!!! Do you have 3rd movt of Bruch violin concerto in g minor but still use the electric guitar????

  • Yes, the whole concerto is recorded.

  • Pretty awesome. I wish I could do that.

  • Great ! I'm looking forward for the rest

  • It sounds nice on the guitar too.

  • Wow, who makes tablature for music like this!? I'm originally a violinist, and the idea of playing stuff like this on the guitar is interesting to me.

  • Tube amps naturally compress your signal while letting your picking dynamics through. Cut out any compression, distortion, and EQ & 1st find a great amp you like the tone and responsiveness of; you can always add processing later. You get great tone when the amp is fairly loud, & I have an attenuator so I can play at any volume. You may want a quality, natural-sounding overdrive pedal that lets your picking dynamics through. Goal=amount of comp. and dist. determined by dynamics of picking hand.

  • the notes are all there but the emotion isnt.

The cut off's are all a little too early.

  • SirEric called this a "SONG"......oh NO! ignorance is a terrible thing. This Bruch is an astounding achievement.

  • u really sounds cool, i want to learn that
