This incredible song by Linda Ronstadt, written by Randy Newman, is from the album of the same name released on March 14, 1995 on the Elektra label. The background singer is the equally talented Emmylou Harris. The song was later included in the 1999 CD, Trio II, by Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt.

  • Thank you for posting this. One can only listen to the other versions for so long...before one yearns to hear the best version.

  • I have heard other versions and agree. This is the best. She makes it her very own.

  • One of my favorites by Linda Ronstadt.

  • It is a great song and a great performance.

  • Moved me to tears inside... thank you so much for posting!

  • @youngmindedman I felt like she was singing the song to me alone. That's how good she is. And it was an emotional experience. She pours her heart into every song. No star trappings or illusions with Linda. Definitely a "feels like home" person.

  • @ronstadtfanaz I think if I had heard Her sing this in person, it would have made me cry, literally.

  • @phogwood545 Boy that is no kidding! About puts me to sleep on the softer parts! so soothing!

  • @WeCantAffordThat It might be in the phrasing,...in Randy's version on Faust she puts less space between the words,...and in this version the words are so mechanically spaced, it somehow loses its energy. Randy's version, she really feels it, where here, she seems like she has sung it a few too many times.

  • Beautiful song from a beautiful creature.

  • Linda sang this to me (and thousands of others) in a Phoenix appearance. It gave me chills. It was even better live if you can imagine that.

  • @bootface Wrong...Bonnie sang it on the Faust soundtrack

  • Great cover but I can't help but feel like it loses something when she sings it. Her voice is perfect don't get me wrong, but it's missing something Randy's version has... can't quite put my finger on it.

  • yup....best vocals for this song by far
