  • Thanks. But the authorship of this piece is apparently disputed between JS Bach, WF Bach and JL Krebs.

  • I never heard about that. I know there are quite a lot works in the BWV which now are seen as spurious works of other or unknown composers. There's often a lack of evidence, despite of that, this fugue is one of my favorite ones. Thanks for being critically.

Continued. Just because a "scholar" says something doesn't make it so. If the truth were known (and they zealously do all they can to prevent the "inferior" "bourgeois" from finding it out, as with the deranged fascist evolution and global cooling/warming conspiracy pseudo-religions likewise pretending to be "scholarly"), most of such "scholars (there are always exceptions) are indistinguishable from politicians, merely lusting for power & happy to lie for it.

So true. As you say, there's often a lack of evidence, and since my degree is in music history and theory I know the groundless arrogance of much "scholarship" leaving much to be desired. One proof: the alleged rediscovered "Bach" "Neumeister" chorale prelude, "BWV 1096" Christe, der du bist Tag und Licht was for many years known to be by Pachelbel, and yet with great pomp the "great scholars" declared it "Bach," only to have to remove it's new BWV # soon after.

  • @Wolfnoriil The eight 'Small Preludes and Fugues' BWV 553-60 are attributed to Krebs, but not 534, as far as I know.

  • This piece is not easy for me to play - the intervals between voices are sometimes too wide for my hand. And this parallel quints - in every line at least two times!!! When I got to know this piece, I thought once: "It shouldn't have been written by Bach!" (then I didn't know that the autorship of this piece is being questioned). Now I agree that it's not his piece - it sounds not like Bach.

  • as far as i know, helmut walcha only played undispudably bach, and he played this piece. anyway, thanx for posting it!
