CHARLIE KUNZ(1896-1958) THE KING OF PIANO SYNCOPATION. HE HAD HIS OWN STYLE OF PLAYING. HE MADE STACKS OF MONEY FOR HIMSELF AND DECCA RECORDS. HE WAS ACCUSED OF SENDING MESSAGES TO GERMANY VIA HIS RADIO BROADCASTS. A THEME THAT WAS USED IN THE WILL HAY FILM...."THE GHOST OF ST MICHAELS.
A CLASSIC CLIP OF CHARLIE...

  • This reminds me of the way my Father used to play. Everybody said he played like Charlie - whether this was deliberate on my Father's part or accidental I'll never know. My Dad was a huge fan though and always held Charlie in high regard. Thanks for the memories - of both of them!

  • My late father's favourite pianist who he often talked about to me, my dad was a pianist too and always told me Charlie Kunz was not only one of the best piano players ever but also this great man had a style all of his very own. A wonderful clip, thank you so much for sharing it you have done a great a service by adding this on YouTube.

  • 1948 ... or 1934 as the presenter states at the end of the film footage? Whatever, I'm dewy-eyed with nostalgia. What an engagingly gentle sound and style the man had!

  • Charlie Kunz was my dad's favorite pianist. We had lots old 78's (Decca, I think) of his playing, and my dad used to play them all the time on the radiogram. Circa 1955 or so. Brings back some memories, this!

  • Marvelous peronality playing. I recall pub pianists in London trying to imitate his style.

  • Wonderfully elegant, alla Savoy.

  • I met Charlie Kunz in St Lawrences Hospital in1952.

  • many thanks for this rare film of charly kunz. Heard a lot of music from him, have many discs from him, but never saw him playing life. !! G R E A T !! mmmmmmmmm m :p thats music.

  • @steinwaygrande1 It never ceases to amaze me how malicious people can be without doing their homework. If there anything suspicious about good old Charlie it would have definately been on Google, but as I mentioned I did about an hour of research and nothing bad ever came up about him . Only good.

  • @steinwaygrande1 Obviously, the person who put up that absurd suggestion (which prompted my comment) has since deleted his comment. Thanks to you for doing the research.
