@eddy1612 like you said the settings were totaly different. an ae85 has a get around type sports car with a low tourqe transmisson. with softer setting with supension and of course the SOHC engine. while the eight-six had a harder supension setting with a rally training gear box (better tourqe/accelleration), but the chassis was different. the 86 was slightly smaller, by 6mm (width) so more narrow and the roof was 10mm shorter. with of corse the DOCH engine. learn somthing more today?

@hippofries They had an AE86 in '85 as well. The AE85 refers to the chassis code, not model year. The tail lights are different depending on if its a kouki model or zenki model.

@eddy1612 In America, we have the DX model, SR5 model, and GTS model. The DX comes with a 3au, I think, and is a AE85. It also has rear drum brakes. The SR5 has the 4AC engine, and is a AE86 with rear drums. The GTS has four wheel discs as well as the 4-AGE engine.

some comments here are just completely wrong. First of all. The AE85 and AE86 Are CHASSIS Code dependeing on the model. Its not the year they produced it.

@mkIIIsupras Don't forget the torque-steering issues.

R.I.P. i will always miss this guy awesome driver

i think it doesnt really matter what year is it made because the term ae85 or ae86 is the chassis type??
i admit civics are good but they cant even touch the ae86.

remember this is japan not america?
An AE85 is a 1983-1987 toyota automobile that was either a Trueno or a Levin depending on panels. It featured a 3au engine (1.5l) and a more basic suspension set up than the standard AE86. They shared the same chassis and it was easy to swap over a 4age from an AE86 to an AE85 so many AE85s around the world have been converted and upgraded as they are cheaper to buy than AE86s.
Explained enough?
