Video documentation of a kinetic installation by Peter O'Kennedy at 126 Gallery, Galway, Ireland, September 2009. Both record players are playing copies of the same record: an interview with Merce Cunningham and John Cage. No programming or sensors; just dumb, random forward-seeking wheels and cogs, with old fashioned mechanically repeating turntables.(www.peterokennedy.com)
There is something so balletic about the swooping swooning movement of the record players. Their dazzling spotlights seek each other in the darkness like lovers whose paths occasionally overlap, particularly when they crash into each other, but are ultimately doomed to be forever searching.

Brilliant Mr. O'Kennedy! A critique on our post-modern aesthetics? A C.I.A 'softening' technique prior to interrogation? A mischevious baubble to delight children and/or the child within? Whatever the intent - if any - Mr. Cage should be honoured and thrilled.
