Feodor Chaliapin sings 'Death of Boris Godunov' from the opera 'Boris Godunov', for HMV in 1928. Accompanied by Covent Garden Royal Opera House, London Orchestra & Chorus, conducted by Vincenzo Belleza.

Played on my Numark Machine. Originally, this record was 2-sided, but unfortunately, the first side was too worn out, and the grooves were idling.

I like this performance, but I prefer his live recording of this section, also recorded in 1928. I also have this on the original 78rpm format, and will upload that live version sometime.

  • Nie hat ein Sänger den Tod des Boris so dramatisch und ausdrucksstark singen können.

Ich habe seine Biographie gelesen und diese hat mich noch mehr für diesen genialen

    Künstler eingenommen.

  • This is the first time I have heard him sing. What a wonderful treat......thank you so very much.

  • Challiapam for first part of the 20th century Boris Christoff for the second!!

  • Thumbs up if Erik Larson's "In the Garden of Beasts" brought you here!

  • CHaliapin christof

  • ¡Wonderful voice that!!! and the music of mussorsky is perfect

  • !!! que increible vos!!! una de mis operas favoritas

  • Dramatic. Always good to hear it again.

  • When Chaliapin played Boris at the Colon Theater in Buenos Aires, he was the only one who sang in Russian. The rest of the cast sang in Italian. The conductor was Franco Paolantonio (1895-1934).

  • Chaliapin was the ultimate Boris....more for his brilliant acting than his voice, which was also quite impressive!
