Kerkuk was founded by the Karda (Kurds) about 2400 BC. The Assyrians occupied it about 14th BC then later the Babylonians then the Seleucid (Greek) the Parthians then the Sassanians then the Arabs (Islam) then the Ottomans (Turks) and then the English. The city has been Kurdish for 4400 years. Arabs and Turkoman came to Kerkuk in the 1600s so about 350-400 years ago. Kerkuk has, is and always will be Kurdish. Now there is a lot of cluter and garbage in Kerkuk but we will clean it up once more :)

Facts turkish donkey facts: Kerkuk is, has always been and always will be Kurdish. Kerkuk had a majority of Kurds until Saddam Hussein threw out 250 000 Kurds from Kerkuk. The first Arab families came to Kerkuk in the 1600s, Turkoman came to Kerkuk in 1638 so before that Kerkuk was 100'% Kurdish. In 1897 Kerkuk was 78% Kurdish 12% Turkoman 8% Arab and 2% Christian. In 1957 Kerkuk was 63% Kurdish 17% Turkoman 15% Arab and 3,5% Christian. Facts turkish donkey facts! :)
