Recording lo-fi four-track songs in Wisconsin worked for Bon Iver's Justin Vernon -- and for Alex Schaaf of Yellow Ostrich. After relocating to New York City and recruiting a band -- multi-instrumentalist Jon Natchez and drummer Michael Tapper -- Schaaf moved on from the moody solo music of those Dairyland recordings toward a robust, powerful sound on Yellow Ostrich's new album, STRANGE LAND.
