This 3D visualization shows the acceleration of electrons in a laser wakefield accelerator (LWFA). The pulse is "perfectly matched" to the plasma density to minimize diffraction or refraction, thereby preventing expansion or contraction of the bubble.

This simulation was performed with VLPL3D on TACC's Lonestar system, and visualized with TACC's Longhorn with VisIt. The simulation domain is ~400x400x4000, with over a billion particles, generating several Terabytes of data.
