@mrfox831 Go for it! The principles of learning are the same no matter what species you're teaching. Karen Pryor has taught a fish to swim through a hoop and a hermit crab to ring a bell, so I'm sure you could teach your chameleon tricks. A good book to read is "Don't Shoot the Dog" by Karen Pryor. (It's not about dogs!)

Aw, I love your parrot! What a sweetheart ~ and so smart!
I saw two baby Black-headed Parrots in a pet shop ~ they were so sweet and playful.. Do you think this species is relatively easy to handle? Or at least suitable for beginners?

@jojobee42 Caiques are, in my experience, relatively easy to handle, but they can give wicked bites and can be loud if they want to be. They are quite independent, bold, and headstrong, so it's important to have a good working knowledge of positive training techniques before bringing one home. A great first book to read is "Getting Started: Clicker Training for Birds" by Melinda Johnson.

How did you teach it to do that?

@QueenSmileyFace1 I used clicker training. You can learn about it by subscribing to the Bird-Click Yahoo Group or reading the book Getting Started: Clicker Training for Birds. It is an amazing way to bond with your parrot and teach them fun and useful behaviors.
