Alfred Newman stands alonside Elmer Bernsteinas the two greatest composers from the 60s and thats a huge wrap given the other brilliant composers around then Bronislau Kaper, Alex North, Dimitri Toimkin among the better ones. They should build a second Mt Rushmore for those guys at least they gave us more enjoyment than some of the presidents

I wish someone would re-issue a lot of this kind of old soundtracks on DVD. I've seen the album marked down at record stores for a $ 1 !

Alfred Newman's last score .. and listen closely -- can you hear the tribute to Gershwin and many others that inspired his work -- throughout the score.

Every time I transit MSP (Minneapolis) airport, this music plays in my head.
Fun .... and disturbing, all at the same time.

This is Alfred Newman's last, and one of his very best!! Absolutely superb! Stirring, heroic, awe-inspiring!

@SFConifer In L.A. for decades there was the exact same recording. "The white zone is for loading and unloading of passengers only. No parking." You can hear it in many films and TV shows.
This theme is definately one of the best arrangements ever. I remember seeing this movie on March 16th, 1970 at Radio Cty Music Hall, Rockefeller Center. A school outing on a Saturday. I was 11. I'm 50 now. Loved it then, still love it now. And yes, it does stay in your head- especially when your on your way to the "Airport".

Alfred Newman's score for Airport is breathtaking. They just don't write them like that anymore. A supreme classic. Still gives me goosebumps.
