After a racial comment was made. A young black female was handcuffed and arrested because she hit the girl who made the racist remark.

First off, I was just trying to enjoy a meal a IHOP, when this fight occured. Second, it is offensive language that instigated the situation. I do agree that girl being arrested was provoked, but our legal system protects against freedom of speech. Until, American citizens need to understand that in an argument rights are not violated until someone acts on the provoking behavior. Maybe, an amendment should be made that protects against offensive language that promotes violent behavior.

Again, if you want to word to disappear, everyone, black and white will have to stop using it. Until then, if the blacks use it, then everyone can use it. Period! I hear the word constantly from blacks, black comedians using it during their acts, and rappers in their music. Don't like the word, police the race using it most. And using it telling someone to quiet down and stop being obnoxious is NOT justification to physically attack someone. But if you do, accept the arrest.

this is what the law says: sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. It doesn't matter who SAID what-you lay your hand on ANYONE...whether white or black and YOU will go to jail. Simple as that. Get violent, and you will get arrested. @jagrizzle There are limits on free speech. You can't yell "fire in a theater" (Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., Supreme Court Justice, 1919). I don't know exactly what was said and, therefore, if the racist comment was within first amendment rights. However, for example, the "N" word is hate speech and should be outside first amendment protected speech and the person using the "N" word should expect to get their lights knocked out.
