#1: The feeling you can get from it, how a simple chord progression can bring any emotion from anger to joy. \
#2: Would be nice, but I do it to be known rather then the money. I don't want fame rather I just want my work to be recognized. All the money I want is enough to pay rent and maybe get me a few more synthesizers, and maybe food. Food would be nice.

music biz is a tool.
ART IS ONLY WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU AND WHAT YOU FIND PROFOUND.
The internet is a tool, like the major labels ONCE WERE
The confusion comes when politics pollutes the 2 with it's aspiration. The guy who gave you 2 million has nothing to do with whether or not YOU COME UP WITH SOMETHING SPECIAL - THAT WOULD OCCUR WHETHER HE EXISTED OR NOT. Take the money / smile!

SUCCESS: is all personal. For me, it's making good music that I know in my heart is better or as good as anything else. DOING IT FULL TIME. Does not matter if you are Lady GAGA and play the same crap night after night. Famous bands do the same stuff other musicians do...day after day, anyways...travel, soundcheck, play music, write, rinse, repeat. It's a lifestyle. Once I am full time...my dreams came true!

The public will, rarely, take the chance to embrace something NEW and good UNLESS SOME REPUTABLE SOURCE / IE - Major label promo says it's cool = Lady GAGA
quagmire: Majors are no longer looking to develop - THEY WANT ACTS, ALREADY WITH AN AUDIENCE = AUDIENCE WON'T TAKE CHANCE ON DIFFERENT SOUNDS - PEER PRESSURE - round & round - The U2's of today is somewhere in their bedroom / internet - GET IT?

I am the smartest person, I know.

Part1 IS THE ANSWER to part 2, lol!
2 Million dollars allows you to create music for the remainder of your natural life. He won, sorry
nutshell: b4, A&R (aficionados) will dictate what they consider art to the mass, by developing new acts, like U2. NOWADAYS IT'S ALL DEMOCRATIZED, LEAVING GOOD ART INDEPENDENT & MOST MAJOR RELEASES = TRITE CRAP. GOOD MUSIC IS ALL INDIE, NOWADAYS

I think everyone should be like Cross Canadian Ragweed. They put on one of the best shows but hardley nobody knows about them. The record exec at Universal South tried to get them to change one of there songs to make it more " radio friendley". they said fuck you and did it there own way. they have been togeather for 15 yrs. and still do over 200 shows a year. but most bands dont give a shit and are in it for the money. mostley new age gountry.

Oh and to answer the question, Id rather go for longevity. In the context of hip hop, look at artists like Jay Z, Nas, Jada, Luda etc. These are big names, yet still respected in the industry, and still have more in there career to come. Now look at artists like T-Pain, Soulja Boy, GS Boys etc. Theyre gone, cuz they latched on to trends. You can be the best at "snap music" or "crunk music," but what happens when noone wants to hear it anymore? That's right, they dont wanna hear you anymore!

There is still incredible passion for the music. If it was all about the money, I would have quit already. What I love about making music (making hip hop beats in my case) is that adrenaline rush and the way the music just flows out of you when you know you're on to somethin. When I'm listening, I love the feeling of being overwhelmed by what I hear, and even slightly envious/upset that I didn't make somethin like that first lol.

Making music for me is a labour of love, making money is merely a by product. It has to start with a passion for writing, recording and performing music, followed by some good old fashioned self promotion. If you are lucky enough to make a living along the way you should consider that a welcome bonus. Google "The Antiqcool Podcast " to discover more about the Antiqcool music business model (or non model depending on your viewpoint)
#2- if someone offered me $1m for a song i wrote, hell yeah i would take it. sorry, we live in a material world and teachers get paid shit. i have written/arranged music for different ensembles. it's exciting to hear a performance of a piece i wrote. i have never been paid nor have i asked to be paid for what i have written. i do take pride in what i write... i never write crap.

What a great saying that your tech said. I to had a choral teach that had a profound impact on my outlook on music. Lucky us....

part 2: To be honest, writing the one great song that would make me alot of money and then being considered washed up would be fine with me because I wouldn't have done it for the fame. I'd still write songs and enjoy it like i've always have. I don't need to do it for a living to consider myself successful at it...I'd just be 1 million dollars richer...and life goes on.
