I took this video shortly before going on a tour of the Vilna Ghetto lead by Fania Brantsovsky (Brancovskaja) as part of the 2008 summer program in Yiddish language and culture at the Vilnius Yiddish Institute in Vilnius Lithuania. As you can see in the film I was a bit under the weather but seeing it for the first time last week I thought it was still interesting as an introduction and decided to post it. Fania, the institute's librarian is a Holocaust survivor, former partisan and inmate of the Vilna Ghetto who escaped an hour before it was liquidated and its inhabitants murdered at Ponar. For more information on Holocaust related issues in Lithuania see the website http://www.holocaustinthebaltics.com/ . Information on the Vilnius Yiddish Institute can be found at: http://www.judaicvilnius.com/en
As the founder of the Vilnius Jewish Library, I hope that the library will help create a new beacon of light which shows the beauty of Jewish culture.
