In this video, Mikayla was trying out several different mouthpieces which had been loaned to her. In order to make the comparison easier and more accurate, she played the same song on each mouth piece she tried. Finally, she settled upon a vintage New York Meyer mouthpiece, an 8 with a medium chamber. The mouthpiece had been further opened up by narrowing the rails.

  • What model Selmer is that?

  • @TheIzzysteve ... It's a 1962 Selmer-Paris Mark VI.

  • @mikaylasax Sweet. I have a '58 mark VI and I also use a Meyer, but it's a 6M.

  • @TheIzzysteve ... They are great horns. The mouthpiece shown on this video is not a contemporary Meyer mouthpiece, but is instead a NEW YORK Meyer (a vintage mouthpiece). You can occasionally find them for sale on Ebay. Thanks for listening.

  • Amazing you are Mikayla my friend. You play so well and just to think~You have a complete bright future ahead. God bless you and be with you!!!

  • @Broaart

  • @mikaylasax No, thank you for uploading! Jeez you're good!

  • Best Female Saxophonist i EVER SEEN lol your really good.

  • 8M? Ok yea it projects but not good for the learner. Get a Meyer 5 or MAYBE 6 so you can learn, develope, and when you get the chops for it, go for 8. Love the sound though! Sooooo dark

  • I honestly think there is nothing that special about this mouth peice, it's not overly bright or warm or even anything.

  • But can I just say and I would like a reply to see what you think- You don't need a certain mouthpiece to sound a certain way eg-

If you gave bob Reynolds a student yamahha mouthpiece he would sound like bob Reynolds even thou he plays a 9* rubber otto link

  • you have something alot of players dont have

  • Great work all the time u improve and i know you ALWAYS PRACTICE LOL and that mouthpiece suits you it takes around 6 months to adjust mouthpieces but nice !!!!!!!!! dont ever stop !!!

    LOVE SAXOPHONIST OLIVER

  • You play really well!

  • Holy Smoke! Some great runs you've got there. Nice Ligature! (I personally don't like meyers but that's just me. lol)

  • at 0:56-0:59 what pattern are you playing? i really like that lick

  • @Kafka6strings I've tried to play guitar (like you), and couldn't play it as well as you do. Thanks for watching my videos.

  • amazing.

I bought an alto before, but I could not play it better.

    I respect you!

  • @freighter014 You're right. It's a Francois Louis ligature.

  • is that an FL ultimate lig? kids these days lol

  • @JaMiLsax Thanks!

  • wow!! suenan muy bién tus interpretaciones

Aunque yo uso Brilhart. mouthpieces =S jejeje

  • @MultiSupport Thanks!

  • awesome:-)thumbs up:-)

  • @drumstyx6464 - I got REALLY lucky! Arranger, composer, saxophonist, and trumpet player Mike Crotty practically GAVE it to me. You're right... they do go for $1000 + normally. Mike Crotty gave it to me for just $40 !! I couldn't believe it!
