A Mormon explains what is true, what is half-true, and what is completely false from the Godmakers video. The propaganda isn't truly "what Mormon theology is really all about".

  • Now I asked you for evidence to your statement "(The Father and the Son) are equal in power..."

The scripture references you gave as evidence merely demonstrate that the Lord/God of the Old Testament is in fact Jesus Christ. This is something that Mormons agree with.

However, the scriptures are clear that God the Father chose, appointed, and ordained Jesus Christ. He GAVE Christ power and authority. Christ stands at the Father's right hand. All of these truths contradict your statement.

  • EMBRACE: how can these people receive salvation before Christ died?

The Atonement of Jesus Christ was without bounds in terms of time (much like God is without bounds in terms of time). He atoned for the sins of those before, during and after.

  • Not just "image". This is actually quite easy. Go to the Old Testament and do a search on the phrase "image and likeness". You will find that each and every instance that this phrase is found, it refers to form (i.e. physical appearance).

Now Christians such as yourself make one exception, where God says we are made in His image and likeness. Mormons, on the other hand, are more consistent. We believe that phrase means the same as it does everywhere else in the Old Testament text.

  • Scriptural evidence: Gen 49:18, Exd 14:13, 1Sa 14:45, 1Sa 19:5, 2Sa 22:3, 2Sa 22:36, 1Ch 16:35,..etc, how can these people receive salvation before Christ died? there is only One God from the Old and New testament- Jesus came so that he may save those who accept him- Jehovah = "the existing One" how would Jesus be Jehovah if he was the first to be "created" in mormon theology?

  • Again I need you to show me where I can find these scriptures in the bible so I know what you're talking about. Christians are very consistent on what it means in context plus what it represents in the original greek meaning. Lets just start with something basic-you believe that the Father and the Son have the same "image" in your translation to "physical" so also representing "man" being made in their "image" also meaning "physical form" this idea is simple to think of in english.

  • EMBRACE: "They(The Father and the Son) are equal in power..."

Scriptural evidence for this statement please? I have plenty that indicate otherwise. Christ was chosen, appointed, ordained by someone with higher authority. He was given power/authority/knowledge that he didn't already have. I invite you to take out your Bible and take the time to read these verses within their context- John 3:35; John 7:16; Acts 4:27; Acts 10:42; Heb. 1:2; Heb. 5:10; Heb. 8:1; 1 Pet. 1:20; Rev. 5:12

  • So again, are you claiming that the first time "image and likeness" is used in the Bible means something entirely different than it means everywhere else in the Biblical text?

The Mormon interpretation is more consistent.

Part of Christ's mission was to reveal to us what God is. Christ essentially said... look at me, touch my hands, know me. This is what your Father in Heaven is like. The disciples understood this and noted that Christ was "the express image of the Father's person".

  • EMBRACE: "How did people understand their salvation in the Lord through out the Old Testament?"

Quite simple. Yahweh/Jehovah of the Old Testament is Jesus Christ. It is Christ himself who has played the most active role as far as working directly with mankind from the creation. He did so under the direction and authority of God the Father.

For example Gen 48:15-16 speaks of Christ, who like God the Father also held the title of God before even entering mortality. This "Angel/God" redeems.

  • I didn't say that all three don't "participate in the respect of salvation". I said that each of them play different roles in our salvation.

They don't do the same things for us. For example, Christ was crucified for us, and for at least part of that ... He did alone.

  • smpf38: "to say that they perform the same role in our salvation." - I think you're missing an asset of the Role of God- which the Father, holy Spirit and Christ all participate in the respect of salvation. how would it be heresy if all the scriptures speak about them existing co-equal for our salvation? Yes they all have different roles but doesn't make them any less different from how salvation is brought to His people.
