Preventing SIDS: Revised Safe Sleep Guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Since the AAP recommended that parents place babies on their backs for sleep, the cases of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome has decreased significantly. The AAP has updated their recommendations to clarify what parents can do to best prevent SIDS and keep babies sleeping safely. A safe crib has only a mattress with a snugly fitted sheet -- no bumpers, pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, monitoring devices. And remember, drop-sided cribs are no longer recommended! Follow these guidelines to prevent the threat of suffocation and SIDS. Clay Nichols and Brad Powell host. Episode 824 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.

  • @DadLabs I did want to also add that i mis spoke about the fact that there was lead in vaccines. I meant that there was Aluminum in vaccines. To give you some vaccines to look up the Hep B vaccine contains 250 mcg of Aluminum and contains Formaldehyde. DTap contains 330 mcg of Aluminum and also contains Formaldehyde and Mercury. PVC contains Aluminum. Polio vaccine contains Formaldehyde. The Flu vaccine contains Formaldehyde and some brands contain Mercury. Just to name a few.

  • @tessabella12 You must be outside the US. No vaccines given to kids in the US contain any form of formaldehyde or mercury. By spreading disinformation you are doing great harm. The flu vaccine saves lives.

  • But what about winter newborns? Just a warm pajama?

  • @Meggeroni7504 There are some great sleep sacks on the market if you are worried about the baby getting cold.

  • I disagree with the "studies" you gave saying immunizations reduce the risk of SIDS. I think that the effects of drugs administered during labor and delivery and possibly the lead, mercury, formaldehyde, and other harmful agents used in immunizations are a greater cause of SIDS than we are being led to believe. Especially because most of the SIDS cases are NOT due to suffocation so all of these rules like no blanks, bumpers, ect make no difference.

  • @tessabella12 There is not lead, mercury, or formaldehyde in immunizations. That is dangerous mis-information based on completely discredited science.

  • @DadLabs ... This information is not hidden or debated. There is mercury, lead, and formaldehyde in some vaccines. You are ignorant to openly say that there isn't. What IS up for debate is the effect that these dangerous ingredients have on a child's developing body. Since they can't do studies on babies there is no exact scientific proof that these ingredients are safe, especially when several vaccines with these ingredients are mixed together. I suggest you do more reasearch on vaccines.

  • @DadLabs I just got around t checking my messages and saw that you responded to my comment about vaccines. Are you kidding? Call your local health department and ask if some brands of this years flu vaccine have mercury or lead in them. You really need to do your research or ask to see the ingredients on your children's vaccines list next time you are at the doctors office. There are also ingredients listed of all major vaccine brands listed on their individual websites....

  • Actually, one might want to review what really is the case of most SIDS, not bumpers, not gizmos but, like in the case of 53% in the Nebraska State study - Co-Sleeping with Adult.

"..Of the 12 deaths studied here, there was no single common factor. However, many had strong risk factors for a suffocation death, the most

common being bed sharing with one or more parents and siblings (53.3%)" -
