One Just World - Womadelaide 2009
Women of the World Feeding Families, Sustaining Communities
Celebrate International Women's Day in words and music. Hear how women globally are making a difference, and what more could be achieved if inequities in resources, power and voice were overcome.

Dimi Mint Abba, the `Diva of the Desert', gave European audiences a first taste of music from the crossroads of African and Arabic culture with her 1990 album Moorish Music from Mauritania. A superstar in her native Mauritania, Dimi is widely regarded as its best-loved female griot combined musical historian, biographer, social commentator, poet, soothsayer and storyteller. Powerful, haunting vocals have won her wide critical acclaim.

One Just World is a national series of forums focusing on global poverty and development topics of high public interest and relevance. Our aim is to help Australians become informed and involved in helping the 800 million people worldwide who are fighting to escape the poverty spiral.

  • She also said that women before if they don't get married at a young age that means their less beautiful ! :P ! but now in this days culture changes and women get marry (like what i said) during the age of 16 ,17, 18 !!! She also said that she was married her first marriage at the age of 11 !

  • Second question was 2 years ago they change the law that women have to be 18 or older to get married ! and did that made much of a diffrence to how women in mauritania ? Dimi anwere to that question is that the law didn't change much because they still get married at any age they want ( but of course she meant something normal not age of 11 or below 15 in mauritania everything changed over time !! that was before but now women marry when their over 16,,sometimes over 20 ,it depend on the girl !
