We spent this weekend at the Coastal Clean Up 2011 in the Berkeley Marina with The Watershed Project. California Coastal Cleanup Day, an annual beach and inland waterway cleanup, is the state's largest volunteer event. In 2010, over 82,500 volunteers removed more than 1.2 million pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, lakes, and waterways.

The Watershed Project's goal is havingpeople committed to a healthy San Francisco Bay watershed. Since 1997, they have pursued that dream by:

1) Restore and preserve our unique, local ecosystems
2) Give students, teachers and volunteers the tools to preserve healthy watersheds
3) Bring a watershed perspective to the urban environment
4) Support grassroots watershed organizations
5) Nurture young people who aspire to environmental careers working for positive change in our Bay Area communities
