A quick and dirty sound off! No, it's not comparing which one is best, because I don't think they are mutually exclusive. I really just want to compare the timbres and envelope operations and to show you some nice clear DCOs and VCOs.

Personally, I think the Moog is slightly fatter and I like it's filter better, but not by very much at all on both counts.

FYI, the P08 was running in 'unison' with this mode set to 'single voice'. So it was in effect, a monosynth.

Please feel free to comment and/or ask me any questions about the gear.

  • @Ancaja123 Me, if you could call it that!

  • Great demo! Any chance of doing filter sweep comparison?

  • did you have any "slop" setting on the Prophet?

  • @corganb I think it was set to 4.

  • @tonykanemusic It only takes playing a virus in poly mode to realise how quickly anything more than duophony sounds awful on any slightly dirty sounds. With monophonic instruments you can stick as much filth on without that worry. Thats why the three oscs of a minimoog can make 90% of the sounds in most electronic dance music.

I wonder what part of the design philosophy you mean, would you care to elaborate? Dont worry about detail i program my own synths and DSP so I am fairly competent.

  • the prophet sounds like my ex sony 1 bitter wahwah computer cdp compared to my ex pana multi bitter... i mean just listen to the deeper sawtooths the moogs sound full and considerately crafted while the plastic prophet... ? nest pas?

  • @nickeax awwwwwwww :(

  • o wow, exactly what i was looking for

  • bad video

  • Actually monophonic synths can go music dirtier than polyphonic synths based on the design philosophy. Basically all the oscillators cant go as loudly on the vca. Monosynths will always sound filthier. The older moogs and oberheims etc had some much distortion in the signal path but it sounded great.
