You can actually hit harder with and open hand. You will not damage your hand as you can with a fist. You are more able to parry, trap and manipulate with an open hand.
You have obviously never done any live stick sparring or you would not be able to write that kind of nonsense. Comparing a solid stick to a nunchaku is a waste of time. They don't function the same way, they don't respond the same way, and while one is actually a useful fighting tool, especially when you consider that you can use all of the same techniques with a telescoping baton, and the other is freaking useless.
Depends, I've used nunchaku on soft targets and the recoil is nasty sometimes. Of course on the off chance, you might hit a target and not get any recoil from it at all. It has to do alot with how you hit it.
