Chapter 31
Lana stared up from the ground into the shiny eyes of Nick. He stared back at her for a couple of seconds, then spoke so quietly she had to strain to hear, "Why?" he said in a whisper. The feeling of regret she felt in her stomach was worse after he said that. Her heart sank, and she let her arms fall from around Kevin's neck. She closed her eyes and felt Kevin pull her up into his arms, holding her close to his bare chest. She opened her eyes and looked back at Nick. His expression had changed- a look of fury could be seen behind his glowering eyes, his hands balled up into fists. He wasn't looking at her anymore, he was staring at Kevin. Before she had a chance to say anything or grab her clothes, she saw Nick run at full speed toward them. She felt the rush of air and heard the sound as his fist collided with Kevin's chest. There was a whoosh of air as kevin gasped and fell backward onto the ground. She turned her head to see what had happened, but she felt Nick wrap his arms around waist and pull her up off the ground into his arms. He thrust her clothes at her and he took off full speed, with her in his arms, deeper into the forest, his eyes full of rage and his lips in a tight grimace.. The final bell rang and Caitlyn came out of math class and practically ran to her locker. She grabbed her things as quickly as she could, but before she could finish she felt two strong arms wrap around her neck and pull her into their chest. "Hello." She heard Joe say into her ear as he massaged her neck. She turned around in his arms and stared up at him. God he was good looking!! "Hey, you ready?" she replied and he smiled. "Oh I've been ready for this since the day I met you... which was this weekend!" he added quickly. She laughed and added, "Ok! Let's go! I can't seem to remember where you live..." she said, but he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her into his side. "Don't worry. I'll escort you! And I have a surprise for you when we get there!" he added with a sly smile. "Ok! I Love surprises!" she smiled at him as they began to walk. "Oh I'm sure you'll like this surprise very much!" he laughed and kissed the top of her head as they walked down the hall and out the door.
Nick kept running through the woods with Lana huddled in his arms. She looked back up at him and his eyes were still angry, they scared her to look at them. She just closed her eyes and hid her head in his chest as he ran... and ran... and ran. Finally, after what seemed like forever, he stopped and placed her down on the cold ground. She looked up at him and he handed her her clothes and glared at her, his face full of malice. She gasped and looked away, afraid of what he would do if she said anything. Nick noticed this and he instantly felt bad as he tried to softened his expression so she wouldn't be so afraid of him.
Lana got her shirt on and was about to put her pants back on when he walked up to her and sat down. She flinched and scooted away from him, but when she looked back at him and saw his softened expression, she stopped. Nick scooted himslef closer to her and grabbed her hand. She looked away from him, but he pulled her toward him and wrapped his arms around her waist as he layed his head on top of hers.
She didn't know what to do. Was he mad? sad? upset? She was lost in thought when she felt him shuffle under her head and she looked up at him. His eyes were shiny again, and he looked down at her. "Just tell me why." he said quietly, and she shivered trying to think of a response. "I don't know. I didn't want to Nick, I swear! He pulled me outside and said he wanted to talk and I didn't want to," she swallowed hard and he held her tighter to him. "Then, he kissed me and, well, it went from there. I don't know what made me want to... maybe i didn't want to... i don't know. I'm so sorry Nick!! I don't know what got over me." She looked up at him, he was starring straight ahead into the trees. She breathed in deeply and let it out. "Nick, I'm sor..." she was interrupted by his soft lips softly pressing down on hers. She was struck by surprise but she kissed him back slowly. His lips brushed along hers lightly as he kissed her, his hands found hers and he grabbed them and didn't let go. His lips molded onto hers and he caressed her face with his hand. He kissed her one last time and rested his forehead on hers, their noses touching. He looked in her eyes and grabbed her hands. "Just tell me you didn't enjoy him" he said softly. It took her a sec to realize he was talking about Kevin, and she quickly responded. "no!! No No No No No!! I thought I did, but when you kissed me just now, I realized i didn't." She said, and he smiled. Suddenly, he turned toward the woods and heard a rustle, then a voice. "Lana? Babe where are you?" they heard- Kevin. Nick's hands balled into fists and he got up, his face hard, ready to fight..
